If you are a Capture One user and have recently tried to import Ricoh Pentax 645z files you are greeted with blank import pages. Shortly after the official release of the 645z in the US, Phase One blocked 645z files in an attempt to keep Phase One users from switching to the Z, instead of the IQ250. One can see the logic behind this: the 645z is a great camera at a fraction of the cost. You could probably buy two Z bodies and a bunch of lenses for the price of an IQ250 back alone. Don’t get me wrong, I am not “hating” on Phase One at all; they have a great system. What I am upset about is that they block 645z files, when 645z file support was originally there. I think there is a market for Phase One, even with a 645z or MKII, or whatever may follow, but blocking files will certainly not help to prevent a certain crowd from switching, especially if you are a paying CaptureOne license holder. Thankfully, neither the move, nor the implementation are to tough to circumvent at all, so a fix is rather easy.
Meet Capture Fix. My Capture One fix is just one of many ways how 645z images can be brought back into Capture One. If Phase One removes support for 645z files yet again, there are other ways to circumvent whatever they come up with. It’s sad to see that they remove support, especially when most of us pay for a license and working with 645z files was originally not an issue (before it got blocked later).
For now I’ll provide my Capture One Fix as is, and free to download for everyone, for as long as you get it from me only, and not anywhere else. All I am asking is that you do not host these files, repackage, or sell them obviously. If you have feedback, please message me or leave a comment. The software is working for me, but it might not for you. Make sure you have the latest JAVA JDK installed (get it here: JAVA) before you get started. You will also need image transmitter 2, which can be found here.
You can actually create a default ICC dng profile, which will get colors etc. more in line with what you expect and then will be transparent for you while you use C1 and CaptureFix (Thanks Drew for pointing that out).
The video above serves as a manual (there really isn’t much to this tool anyway), so don’t expect any additional documentation. Any future releases of Capture One Fix will be sent to you directly by email. Enjoy 🙂
Since CaptureFix free came out almost a year ago, the software has been used by thousands of photographers all around the world. Thank you all so much for your love and support. As a result I came up with a better, faster CaptureFix, which can run more than twice as fast on some machines. CaptureFix Pro is available to you after you sign up for the CaptureFix newsletter and CaptureFix Free below. If you are fine with the free version, go ahead and use it as much as you like.
If you are using this professionally, you might want the extra functionality and speed of CaptureFix Pro. Just like the free version, the pro version is non destructive, meaning even if you are on someone else’s computer, you can use CaptureFix to easily ingest Pentax files into CaptureOne, without making any permanent changes. If you recall, I always said that there are many ways for getting 645Z files into Capture one, and I am now introducing
CaptureFix fast is a different approach to the whole import problem, by enabling NATIVE import capabilities in CaptureOne. Simply drag your CaptureOne app (or folder in windows) into CaptureFix Fast just once to enable the function, then use CaptureOne to import directly or through hot folders without the need to run CaptureFix Pro in the background. Be aware, that this makes permanent changes to your CaptureOne software, so do this at your own risk and keep a backup!
CaptureFix fast enables Pentax 645Z and 645D import into CaptureOne and is now part of the CaptureFix Pro package (together with my DNG/ICC profile) for new subscribers. To get access to this, sign up below (and stay signed up!) and follow the instructions. If you know what you want, you can directly access CaptureFix Fast and Pro, but if you are new to this, I STRONGLY suggest you try the basic version first. If you leave this list, I will not update you on new software releases, bug fixes, or any other updates related to the Pentax system, and any license I have granted to you previously will expire.
Please fill out the form below so I can send you the latest version of CaptureFix. This allows me to keep you informed about future updates.
